Website Inquiries

3 min read Updated

Plenty of trade businesses get visitors to their website but very few calls from it. Usually the problem isn’t the work you do. It’s that the website makes people work too hard to understand what you offer and how to get in touch.

Here are seven practical fixes that make it easier for the right customers to enquire.

1. Say what you do and where, straight away

Within a few seconds of landing, a visitor should know three things: what service you provide, which areas you cover and how to contact you. A headline like “Licensed electricians servicing the Northern Beaches” does more work than a generic welcome message.

2. Make calling and enquiring effortless on a phone

Most people looking for a tradie are on their phone, often in a hurry. Put a tap-to-call phone number and a clear enquiry button where they’re always easy to reach, especially at the top of the page and after each key section.

3. Give each main service its own page

One page that lists every service in a few bullet points rarely convinces anyone. Separate pages for your main services let you explain the job, answer common questions and show relevant examples. They also give Google something specific to show when people search for that service.

What a good service page includes

  • A clear description of the service and the types of jobs you take on.
  • The areas you cover for that service.
  • Photos of real work, not stock images.
  • Answers to the questions customers ask before booking.
  • A clear way to call or enquire.

4. Speed up the mobile site

A slow page loses visitors before they’ve read a word. Oversized images are the most common cause. Compressing images, removing plugins you don’t use and keeping pages simple usually makes a noticeable difference.

5. Show proof people can trust

Genuine Google reviews, photos of finished jobs and your licence details all help a stranger feel confident calling you. Put them near the decision points on the page, not hidden on a separate testimonials page nobody visits.

6. Keep the enquiry form short

Ask only for what you need to respond: name, phone, email, suburb and a short description of the job. Every extra field is another reason to give up. Make sure the form works properly on mobile and that you’re notified as soon as it’s submitted.

7. Track the enquiries the website sends you

If you can’t see which calls and form submissions come from the website, it’s hard to know whether changes are working. Setting up tracking for phone clicks and successful form submissions gives you a clear picture of what the site is actually producing.

Small changes, better enquiries

None of these fixes need a complete rebuild. Working through them one at a time can make your website clearer for customers and easier for Google to understand. If your site needs more than a tidy-up, a rebuild focused on clear messaging and simple enquiry paths may be worth considering.
